With the need to renovate their family home to include an updated and contemporary style, this Ogden family hired MWA to transform the existing 1960’s architecture into a functional living space. This classic home, located along the east bench of Ogden, UT, comprises of 1,800 square feet with four bedrooms and five baths. Like most homes constructed in the 1960’s this one contained finishes and a floor plan layout that, 50 years later, is now outdated and impractical to the owners style of living.
The original layout on the main level divided the kitchen, dining and living room from one another. By removing these partitions, that segmented the home, allowed the kitchen and living room to be joined together harmoniously. The kitchen island now stands out as a key entertaining piece that is central to the kitchen design. The cabinetry provides sufficient upper and lower cabinet storage and is surrounded by modern appliances.
A custom stone fireplace brings texture and visual interest to the living room and a light and serene color palette compliments the dramatic navy blue accents. A new coffered ceiling element, with updated lighting, joins the kitchen and living spaces together in unity.
The original main level also only had one bathroom. The new design splits that square footage into 2 rooms to create a powder room and a 3/4 bathroom that is now connected to the master bedroom. There was also a 3rd bedroom on the main level that is converted to a 3/4 bathroom for the 2nd bedroom to use.
The bulk of the renovation will affect the main level, however, downstairs, which consists of 2 more bedrooms, each having their own bathrooms, and an entertainment area for casual living, will also receive some attention.
Meticulous planning and coordination is needed to undergo any renovation project and Mountain West Architects has the right experience to achieve a successful transformation.
